The Committee is charged to review and recommend changes to staff for consideration and implementation within the joint Solid Waste Management Plan at local and county levels. Additionally, the committee provides input to staff on a wide range of topics related to solid waste management using the following goals: Explore options and consider options to increase the City’s recycling rate, save landfill space, and provide additional revenue, provide input on refuse collection, route planning, technology, community-wide recycling, sanitation rates, walk in services, landfill tipping fees and other topics regarding solid waste collection and disposal., provide input on HHW recycling, reuse opportunities, e-waste events and other relevant topics involving HHW collection and disposal or new items of interest, provide recommendations to City staff for policy changes, as appropriate.

Board Information

There are 16 positions on this committee. A simple majority constitutes quorum. Membership consists of the following positions:

6 City (representing the city of the first class),

4 City (county-at-large, nominated by city),

1 City (representing cities of the 3rd class),

1 County (unincorporated, nominated by county),

2 County at large (nominated by County),

2 Youth (county at large, nominated by city).

As required three to four times a year (usually January, August, and December) with a fourth meeting typically being scheduled for special or unforeseen circumstances. Generally held on the third or fourth Thursday at 4:00pm in Room 105 in the City-County Building located at 300 W Ash.
